A Clear Mission and Strong Core Values

For more than 35 years, NeighborWorks has been committed to helping revitalize communities near Scranton and has helped improve lives throughout the region through resident empowerment, neighborhood revitalization, sustainable homeownership, and public-private partnerships. This mission has remained clear since its beginning in 1981 and continues to this day along with its core values: Excellence, Collaboration, Empowerment, Integrity, Creativity, and Confidence.

Programs Geared Towards Community Revitalization

NeighborWorks offers a variety of programs to help support new homebuyers and existing homeowners alike with financial and remodeling needs. Here is an overview of each of their services they offer to the local communities:

• Homebuyer Education: Understand and demystify the homebuying process by signing up for free educational workshops, online courses, and one-on-one sessions with housing-industry professionals.   
• Financial Education: Receive one-on-one guidance or sign up for an interactive workshop where you can learn how to easily get your finances in order and enhance your budget strategy.
• Home Repairs & Improvements: Dedicated to improving the overall quality of the community’s homes by making them safer and more energy efficient, NeighborWorks offers several programs to help do just this. These include “Aging in Place”, which is focused on assisting elderly homeowners, and “Scranton Homebuyer Assistance Program” which provides financial assistance for exterior home repairs for those who qualify.
• Neighborhood Revitalization: Through home repairs, improvement of blighted and vacant lots, and coordinated community events, NeighborWorks and its team of volunteers consistently strive to improve the communities for the people living in them.
• Homes for Sale: By accepting donations from banks, estates, and other sources, NeighborWorks is able to invest in and list local homes in an effort to create a positive impact on surrounding property values and the local tax base.
