The dashboard of your Ram 1500 holds a lot of important information. Whether a system has been activated or there is an issue, you’ll know about it when a light illuminates telling you so.

In this Ram 1500 dashboard light guide, we at Scranton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram have highlighted a few of the different symbols you may see. When service is needed, drivers near the areas of Clarks Summit, Dickson City, or Dalton, Pennsylvania, can visit our dealership for maintenance.

Trailer Brake Disconnected Warning Light

The Trailer Brake Disconnected warning light looks like a trailer in the middle of a circle with a slash going through it. Should the trailer brake disconnect, this symbol will light up red. You will want to pull over to assess the connection in order to make sure the trailer brake is working properly.

Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light

The Engine Coolant Temperature warning light will look like a thermometer above two wavy lines. It’s signaling high temperatures from within the engine and will require you to pull over. In addition to turning off the engine, you’ll also want to shut off other systems, like the air conditioner.

Restart the engine, shift into NEUTRAL, and allow the vehicle to idle. Give the engine some time to cool down, at which point, the light should go away. If it stays lit, shut off the engine and call for towing to a service center.

Low Fuel Warning Light

The Low Fuel warning light looks like a gas pump. If you see this light, it means you have less than a quarter of a tank left. You will want to look for a gas station so you can fill up.

Transmission Temperature Warning Light

The Transmission Temperature warning light looks like a thermometer surrounded by a gear. As with the engine light, it indicates high temperatures, this time within the transmission fluid.

You’ll want to pull over and stop the vehicle. Restart the engine and shift into PARK or NEUTRAL. Allow the vehicle to idle, and wait for the light to go away. If it doesn’t, you’ll want to call for towing to the nearest service center.

Service 4WD Warning Light

When there is an issue with your 4-wheel drive system, you’ll see the Service 4WD warning light. This appears as the words “SERV 4WD.” You will want to have the 4-wheel drive system inspected, so make sure to take it in for service as soon as you can.

Cargo Light Indicator

The Cargo Light indicator looks like a light bulb with lines pointing downward. It will light up when you switch on the cargo light. When you need to grab something from the truck bed, you can switch on this light to help you see better.

Stop/Start Active Indicator Light

The Stop/Start Active indicator light will look like the letter “A” surrounded by an arrow. When your Stop/Start system is in “Autostop” mode, this light will come on to let you know.
