Jeep Compass Dashboard Light Guide

Jeep Compass Features

You may look at your dashboard quickly as you start your engine, but it’s not usually a main focal point. That is until a symbol starts shining brightly and you’re trying to figure out what it’s telling you.

Some dashboard lights are normal, while others may mean that maintenance is needed. Our team at Scranton Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram wrote this Jeep Compass dashboard light guide so our clients near Clarks Summit, Dickson City, and Dalton, Pennsylvania, can learn more about their vehicle.

Jeep Compass indicator and warning lights can appear in a number of different colors, and we’ve highlighted both red and yellow ones below. If you see one of these lights and you think you need a service appointment, contact us today!

Jeep Compass Red Dashboard Lights

Brake Warning Light

Red Dash Lights

This symbol appears as the word “BRAKE.” It will light up if your parking brake is on. Once you’re on level ground or are ready to drive, you’ll normally take the parking brake off.

However, if you’re still seeing this light, it might mean you need more brake fluid. Check your fluid levels and refill if needed. Should the light remain on, it could mean that something is wrong with your overall braking system. You will want to take it to a service center as soon as you can.

Engine Temperature Warning Light

This looks like a thermometer sitting on top of wavy lines. You will notice this symbol light up red when your engine overheats.

To allow your engine to cool down, pull over for the time being, shift into neutral, and turn off other systems, like your air conditioner. The light will remain on if the engine isn’t cooling down. At that point, you will want to turn your car off completely and get it to a service center.

Transmission Fault Warning Light

This red dashboard symbol looks like a large exclamation point in the center of a gear. It may mean there is an issue with your transmission that needs maintenance. Try restarting your engine to see if the light goes away. If not, schedule a service appointment.

Jeep Compass Yellow Dashboard Lights

Service 4WD Warning Light

Yellow Dash Light

If your Jeep Compass has 4-wheel drive, the system may encounter an issue. A yellow symbol will show the words “SERV 4WD” in order to let you know that an appointment is needed. You want to be able to enjoy the full stability that 4-wheel drive offers, so make sure to get the system assessed.

Towing Hook Breakdown Warning Light

The Towing Hook Breakdown Warning Light looks like a triangle with an exclamation mark in the center being pulled on a trailer. If you plan to tow with your Compass, you’ll want to stay alert to any issues with your trailering system.

If you see this symbol, your tow hook may be having issues. It’s best to schedule a service appointment so that future tows stay secure.

Forward Collision Warning Off Indicator Light

If you have the Forward Collision Warning system in your vehicle, then the symbol will look like the front of a car approaching the back of another car. A large star is above the two vehicles, and there is also a forward-pointing arrow below.

If you happen to turn this system off, then the symbol looks the same but this time has the word

“OFF” underneath. This safety system has been designed to protect you during drives, so you may want to keep it on.
